Minor, Savarino Garner Season's Final OCCAC POTW Awards

Springfield, Ohio---Collin Minor and Anthony Savarino of Cuyahoga Community College have won the season's final OCCAC player and pitcher of the week awards in baseball for games played May 8-14.

OCCAC Player of the Week
Collin Minor, Cuyahoga C.C.

Minor, a sophomore third baseman, went 4-for-11 (.364) with five RBI, a double and a home run last week while helping lead his team to a sub-Region XII tournament championship and a berth in the Region XII tournament. In the sub-Region XII championship, he hit the go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth, and he had the game-winning, walk-off RBI in the bottom of the ninth. 

Minor is currently batting 52-for-150 (.347) this year with 40 runs, five doubles, four home runs, 33 RBI, 24 walks and one stolen base. He has a .441 on base percentage and is slugging .460.

OCCAC Pitcher of the Week
Anthony Savarino, Cuyahoga C.C.

Savarino, a sophomore RHP, picked up a complete game victory over Vincennes University in the sub-Region XII tournament opener. In seven innings, he allowed just two hits while striking out seven.

Savarino is currently 8-1 this year with four complete games. In 71.2 innings, he has struck out 57 with a 2.13 ERA over 12 appearances. He leads the staff in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts and complete games.

Cuyahoga, which finished second in OCCAC play this year, is currently 44-13 overall following yesterday's 7-5 win over Grand Rapids Community College in the Region XII tournament. The team will face Kellogg Community College at 3:30 p.m. today in the loser's bracket semifinal with the winner advancing to face the Lansing Community College/Sinclair Community College loser at 7:30 p.m. tonight for a berth in the championship.
