Matt Starcovic (North Olmsted/North Olmsted, Ohio) and Jake Mason (Anderson/Cincinnati, Ohio) have been named this week's Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player and pitcher of the week recipients in baseball, respectively.

Starcovic, a freshman outfielder, only played one game last week, but he sure made it count. From the leadoff spot, he went 5-for-6 with three home runs, one double, one walk, three runs and eight RBI in a win over Lorain County.

Starcovic and the Cuyahoga Community College baseball team finished the regular season at 44-12 overall. They captured the OCCAC championship with a 14-2 record and will open Region XII tournament play on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Mason, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, tossed an eight inning gem to help Sinclair Community College capture the Sub-Region XII tournament championship on Saturday. In his lone outing of the week, which resulted in a 7-1 win over Vincennes University, he allowed seven hits, one run and two walks while striking out six.

With his victory, Mason improves to 8-0 this year. In 57 innings, he has a 1.26 ERA and 49 strikeouts.

Mason and the Sinclair baseball team will open Region XII tournament play on Wednesday at 4 p.m. They will enter the tournament with a 46-10 record.

Congratulations to both players!
