By Sinclair Sports Information

Sinclair Community College's 2014 season began on Saturday with two wins over regional foe Glen Oaks Community College.

Game 1: Sinclair 9 Glen Oaks 7

After facing their teammates for the past month, the Pride offense was ready to see someone in a different uniform. The Tartan bats scored nine runs on nine hits in the first inning, scoring seven runs with two outs. The inning was highlighted by two hits and three RBI's from Taylor Huebner, and a double with two RBI's from Alonso Palacios. The offense would cool off though as Glen Oaks reliever Dylan Call started putting up zero's, giving the Vikings a chance for a comeback.

Glen Oaks scored three in the 3rd off Sinclair starter Pat Boyle and then they chased him from the game in the 4th after he loaded the bases up. Reliever Pat McGuff struggled with control and just like that it was 9-7. Freshman Southpaw Mason Aelker entered the game with the bases loaded and ended the threat with a strikeout. Aelker went two more innings without allowing a hit before turning the ball over to Pride closer Nathan Helke. Helke closed out the game with three strikeouts in the 7th.

Offensive leaders were: Quentin Urban 2-4 2RS RBI SB, Taylor Huebner 2-3 RS 2B 3RBI's BB, Alonso Palacios 2-3 RS 2RBI's BB, Titus Montgomery 1-2 RS 2 BB's

Game 2: Sinclair 3 Glen Oaks 1

Carlos Pena was the story of game two as he dominated Viking hitters striking out nine over five innings of work. Pena retired the first batter each inning he pitched, and threw first pitch strikes to fifteen hitters. Sinclair got on the board early scoring two runs on RBI singles from Alex Young and Titus Montgomery in the second inning. Glen oaks would cut the lead in half with a run on an infield single in the 5th, but the Pride answered in the bottom half with a RBI single from Mitch Roman. Freshmen Austin Eads relieved Pena and pitched a scoreless 6th inning. After recording the first two outs in the 7th, Eads allowed two singles and was lifted for closer Nathan Helke who once again finished the game.

Offensive leaders were: Keenan Carter 2-2 2B HBP, Alex Young 2-3 RS RBI
