Frey, Gill Earn OCCAC Player of the Week Honors

Bikramjit Gill and Hannah Frey have been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Players of the Week.

Gill, a sophomore forward, averaged 24.5 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.5 assists over two games against Cuyahoga Community College (87-72 win) and Sinclair Community College (104-99 win).

In the game against Cuyahoga, Gill poured in 29 points while adding 13 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal. He finished 11-for-16 from the field (1-for-2 from 3-point range) and 6-for-7 from the foul line.

In the game against Sinclair, Gill had 20 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and one assist. He finished 7-for-13 from the field and 6-for-7 from the foul line.

Gill and the No. 10 Express (24-5, 11-1 OCCAC)  closed their conference season with an 11-1 record. They shared the conference championship with No. 1 Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. They will open district tournament play on Friday at 8 p.m. against No. 3 seed Sinclair Community College.

Individually, Gill averaged 19 points, 13 rebounds, 3.2 blocks and 1.9 steals per game in conference play. He finished third in the conference in scoring, first in rebounding, first in blocks and eighth in steals.

Frey, meanwhile, had a monster week offensively for Columbus State Community College (20-6, 7-5 OCCAC).

The sophomore guard averaged 26 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 steals while leading her team to three wins over Lakeland Community College, Edison Community College and Cuyahoga Community College. 

Specifically, it was from the 3-point line where Frey earned her scholarship dollars. She combined to shoot 25-for-49 (51 percent) overall from the field and 22-for-31 (71 percent) from 3-point range. She was 6-for-8 from the foul line combined.

In her team's 81-62 win over Lakeland, Frey was 7-for-16 from the field and 5-for-7 from 3-point range. In the 92-71 win over Edison, she was 9-for-14 overall from the field and 8-for-10 from 3-point range. She closed the week going 9-for-19 overall and 9-for-14 from 3-point range in her team's 89-46 win over Cuyahoga. She finished 3-for-4 from the foul line against Lakeland and Cuyahoga.

Frey and the Cougars, with their 3-0 week, clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming district tournament. They will take on No. 2 seed Cincinnati State Technical and Community College at 3 p.m. on Friday.
