Hannah Frey and John Murry have been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Players of the Week.

Frey scored 24 points in her team's lone game of the week in a 73-67 upset of No. 6 Owens Community College at home on Saturday. Down the stretch, Frey buried a 3-pointer to pull her team within one. After Kamilah Carter of Owens put her team back up four, Frey buried another three to pull her team back within one. Then, after her teammates scored to go up one, Frey buried a third 3-pointer in the final minutes to put her team up four and essentially seal the game.

"Hannah's shooting success is directly related to the amount of time she puts in to perfecting her form and getting in extra reps," said Columbus State women's basketball head coach Joel Renner. "She is the only returning player from last year's squad and has taken on the leadership role with a lot of maturity."

Frey is averaging 14.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game overall for the Cougars. In OCCAC play, she is averaging 12.4 points per game, which is 12th best in the conference.

Frey joins her teammate Erinn Bailey as OCCAC player of the week recipients this year as Bailey won the award last week.

Frey and Columbus State are currently 15-3 overall and 3-2 in OCCAC play. They are scheduled to travel to Lakeland Community College this Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. conference matchup.

On the other hand, Murry was named the men's basketball player of the week after leading Owens to two conference wins.

Murry, a freshman guard, averaged 24 points in two wins over Edison Community College (100-87) and Columbus State Community College (84-76).

Murry had 26 points on 9-for-14 shooting, including a 7-for-7 performance from the foul line, in the win over Edison before producing 22 points on 9-for-15 shooting in the win over Columbus State. In the win over Columbus State, Murry had 13 of his 22 points after the Express trailed 63-52 with 9:01 remaining in the game.

The award marks the first of the season for Murry, while it's the third straight week an Owens player has captured the award. Bikramjit Gill earned the honor the previous two weeks, although the second week was a split player of the week award with Winston Grays of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

For the season, Murry is averaging 15.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He picked up a season-high eight rebounds and four steals in the win over Columbus State.

In OCCAC play, Murry is the conference's second leading scorer at 20.4 points per game. He is shooting 40 percent from the field and 82.1 percent from the foul line.

Murry and the Express men are currently ranked 15th in the nation. They are 18-4 overall and 5-0 in OCCAC play, which puts them in sole possession of first place. They are scheduled to travel to Cuyahoga Community College for a 7 p.m. matchup on Wednesday.

Congratulations to these players on their accomplishments!
