Carter, Blackwell Earn OCCAC Player of the Week Honors

Kash Blackwell and Samia Carter have been named the OCCAC Player of the Week recipients in men's and women's basketball, respectively.

Blackwell, a sophomore guard for Cuyahoga Community College, averaged 24 points, 7.5 rebounds, three assists and two steals per game in wins over Owens Community College and Edison Community College.

In a 70-67 win over Owens, Blackwell had 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Then, in an 81-70 win over Edison, he had 25 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.

Blackwell, who missed the first half of the season, is averaging 20.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.9 assists per game for Cuyahoga. In conference play, he is averaging 20.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Blackwell is currently leading the conference in scoring.

Cuyahoga is currently 14-10 overall and 5-4 in OCCAC play, which puts them in fifth place in the conference standings. They will be back in action this Saturday at 3 p.m. at Clark State Community College.

Carter, a sophomore point guard for Cincinnati State, averaged 15.5 points, six rebounds, 10.5 assists and 8.5 steals per game in wins over Clark State Community College and Columbus State Community College.

In an 82-60 win over Clark State, Carter produced a triple-double with 12 points, 10 assists, 11 steals and six rebounds. She nearly followed that up with another triple-double before finishing with 19 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and six steals.

For the season, Carter is averaging 10.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 4.6 steals per game. In OCCAC play, she is averaging 12.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 9.5 assists and 3.8 steals per game.

Carter is currently leading the conference in assists.

Cincinnati State is 16-7 overall and 6-2 in OCCAC play. They are alone in second place in the conference standings and will be back in action this Wednesday at Sinclair Community College beginning at 5:30 p.m.
