Frederick, Reese Garner OCCAC POTW Honors In Men's, Women's Basketball

Akiean Frederick and Jeryn Reese have been voted this week's OCCAC player of the week recipients in men's and women's basketball, respectively.

Frederick, a freshman forward from Sinclair Community College men's basketball, poured in 29 points to lead his team to a 91-78 win over Edison Community College on Saturday.

The game, which was the regular season finale for both teams, also featured five rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist from Frederick, who finished 11-for-16 from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the foul line.

Frederick helped lead Sinclair to its first OCCAC regular season championship since 2007-08. He averages 13.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.3 blocks per game, and he has led his team to a 27-2 overall record, including a 13-1 mark in OCCAC play.

In 14 conference games, Frederick averaged 16.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 blocks per game.

Sinclair will enter tomorrow's Region XII District 11 quarterfinal matchup against No. 8 seed Clark State Community College as the No. 1 seed. The semifinals and championship game will take place this Friday and Saturday at Ohio Christian University in Circleville, Ohio.

Reese, a freshman forward from the Owens Community College women's basketball team, averaged 22.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and one assist per game while leading her team to a pair of wins over Lakeland Community College and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Reese, who has helped lead Owens to a 24-6 overall record, as well as a perfect 14-0 conference record, averaged 16.1 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.8 steals, 1.4 blocks and 1.2 assists per game in OCCAC play. Overall, in 29 games played, she averages 13.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 1.1 blocks and one assist per game.

Reese and the No. 1 seed Owens women's basketball team will open Region XII District I tournament play on Friday at 1 p.m. in a semifinal against the winner of No. 4 seed Columbus State Community College and No. 5 seed Sinclair Community College.
