117 Student-Athletes Named to OCCAC All-Academic Team

The 2014-15 OCCAC All-Academic team has been announced, and 117 student-athletes across eight conference schools have made the team.

To make the team, a student-athlete must have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours with a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA.

Some key notes include:

- Kelly Wood (Sinclair), Brandon Fatsie (Cuyahoga), Konstandinos Kafes (Lakeland), Mercedes Hobbs (Lakeland), Jessica Kreger (Owens), Allison Hainer (Cuyahoga) and Michaela Nagel (Cuyahoga) all earned 4.0 cumulative GPAs

- Gabrielle Woods and Katlynne Baker of Lorain County Community College made the team as two-sport athletes (volleyball, basketball)

- Women's volleyball had the most student-athletes (24) among all sports. Baseball (20) and softball (15) were next closest

- The Owens softball team placed the most student-athletes on any specific team. They had 10 student-athletes on the team, twice as many as the rest of the conference had in that sport

- Owens and Sinclair each had eight players make the team in baseball, which was the second most student-athletes on any team behind the Owens softball team

- Cincinnati State placed seven student-athletes on the men's soccer team, the third most of any sport. Their total was more than twice as many as the next closest competitor in men's soccer (Cuyahoga with 3).

- Lorain County and Owens each had six volleyball student-athletes on the team

- In terms of total student-athletes from each school, the list goes as follows: Owens (33), Cincinnati State (20), Lorain County (18), Sinclair (17), Cuyahoga (15), Lakeland (9), Columbus State (7) and Edison (3)

- Individual sport champions (schools with most student-athletes with a 3.3 GPA in the sport) include: Owens (softball), Owens and Sinclair (baseball), Cincinnati State (men's soccer), Owens and Lorain County (women's volleyball), Lorain County (women's basketball), Cincinnati State (men's basketball), Owens, Cincinnati State and Columbus State (men's golf), Columbus State (women's golf), Owens and Cincinnati State (women's soccer), Lorain County (cross country), Cuyahoga (track)

Notes

The OCCAC sponsors women's volleyball, men's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball and men's golf. Certain OCCAC member schools such as Columbus State with women's golf, Lorain County with cross country, Cuyahoga with track and Owens/Cincinnati State with women's soccer have additional NJCAA sponsored sports.

NJCAA individual and team academic award winners will be announced later this summer
