OCCAC Announces First POW Awards Of The Season In Baseball, Softball

The OCCAC has voted upon their player and pitcher of the week winners in baseball and softball.

In baseball, Owens Community College's Charlie Sipe earned player of the week honors, while his teammate, Kyle Bennett, won pitcher of the week honors.

In softball, Sinclair Community College's Cassie Osterfeld earned player of the week honors, while Owens Community College's Lesley Ducat earned pitcher of the week honors.

Sipe went 13-for-27 (.481) in five games for Owens. In those 27 at bats, he produced eight runs, one double, one triple, three stolen bases and six RBIs. Overall, he is hitting .467 with six RBIs, nine runs and four stolen bases this year.

Meanwhile, Bennett went 1-0 in 12 innings without giving up an earned run. In his lone start, he tossed a complete game shutout to help his team pick up a 5-0 win over the College of Lake County. In his seven innings, he allowed only four hits while walking zero and striking out two. He also made a relief appearance where he allowed four unearned runs.

Osterfeld tore up the competition in her team's five games. While leading her team to a 4-1 record, she went 11-for-18 (.611) with two runs, four doubles, one triple and seven RBIs. She had at least one hit in each game. Overall, she is hitting .524 with seven RBIs and two runs in six games this year.

Ducat went 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched. She allowed only three earned runs and two walks while striking out 13 batters. She is 5-0 overall with a 2.27 ERA and 24 strikeouts in five appearances this year.
