Angstmann, Rutter Lead Teams to NJCAA Championships Bids to Earn OCCAC Player of the Week Recognition

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) announced its final women’s volleyball Player of the Week honorees of the season on Monday (Nov. 6). Owens Community College’s Erika Angstmann is the OCCAC D-II Player of the Week while Allie Rutter of Columbus State corrals OCCAC D-III Player of the Week laurels.

Angstmann paced the team in kills (27) and points (34.5) as Owens tallied three victories last week and captured the NJCAA District F championship. She attacked .333 for the week while also contributing heavily on the defensive side with 3.86 digs and 1.00 blocks per set. Angstmann was a weapon from the service stripe as well in the title match, ripping four aces in a win over No. 3 Grand Rapids Community College.

The week started with a 7-1-20 attacking line versus Kellogg Community College on Thursday (Nov. 2) to go along with seven digs and three blocks. She then combined for 20 kills and 20 digs in seven sets played against Grand Rapids in consecutive team triumphs (Nov. 3-4). No. 1 Owens is headed to Charleston, W.Va., next week (Nov. 16-18) to compete in the NJCAA D-II Championship, carrying a 37-0 overall record.

NOTE: This marks Angstmann’s first career OCCAC Player of the Week honor and the sixth for Owens (four different players) this season.

Rutter guided the Cougars to a District G championship, stuffing the stat sheet with 17 assists, eight kills at a .533 attacking rate, six digs, two blocks and an ace in a sweep over Howard Community College. No. 9 Columbus State qualified for the NJCAA D-III Championship, heading to Rochester, Minn., this upcoming weekend (Nov. 10-11).

NOTES: Columbus State garnered 10 of 11 OCCAC D-III Player of the Week awards in 2017. Four different Cougars have been awarded the weekly laurel. This marks the seventh for Rutter this season.
