Final Basketball Players of the Week Announced

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The OCCAC handed out its final Basketball Player of the Week awards of the 2017-18 season, honoring the District Tournament MVP performances of Brenda Pennington (Owens) and Quintin Dove (Cuyahoga). Both Owens Women’s Basketball and Cuyahoga Men’s Basketball qualified for the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. No D-III OCCAC teams competed last week.  

BRENDA PENNINGTON
Owens Community College
Sophomore guard

Pennington averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in leading the Express to a District I championship. She opened with a 27-point explosion in the 84-59 semifinals win over Lakeland. Pennington knocked down 7-of-15 from the field and 12-of-13 from the charity stripe to go along with seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals. She then backed up that performance with 12 points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals while playing all 40 minutes of the championship game versus No. 9 Sinclair. This marks the second OCCAC weekly award this season for Pennington and third of her career.

QUINTIN DOVE
Cuyahoga Community College
Sophomore forward

Dove averaged 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in lifting Cuyahoga to the District 11 championship. He buried 8-of-9 field goal attempts for 16 points in the semifinals against Edison State. Dove hauled in a half dozen boards in both contests. He was responsible for 22 more points in the finals triumph over No. 20 Owens. Dove is now a four-time winner of this recognition in 2017-18, including three of the last five weeks.
