SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Four different institutions are represented in this week’s OCCAC Basketball Player of the Week recognition. The D-II winners include Brenda Pennington (Owens) and Quinton Dove (Cuyahoga) while Columbus State’s Antishay Rahim and Mike Rell of Lorain County are the D-III recipients.
BRENDA PENNINGTON
Owens Community College
Sophomore guard
Pennington stuffed the stat sheet with 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in leading #5 Owens to a pair of victories. She converted on 14-of-25 (56%) from the field while committing just two turnovers in 64 minutes played. Pennington posted a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double in The Express’ road win at Columbus State with seven assists. This marks the second career weekly OCCAC award for Pennington (Jan. 29, 2016).
ANTISHAY RAHIM
Columbus State Community College
Sophomore forward
Rahim extended Columbus State’s weekly award streak to six straight, also marking her third accolade of 2017-18 (Nov. 20 and Feb. 5). She averaged a double-double (11.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, including 5.0 offensive boards/game) in a pair of contests. Rahim knocked down 10-of-17 (59%) field goal attempts while also posting per game averages of 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks.
QUINTIN DOVE
Cuyahoga Community College
Sophomore forward
Dove tallied 25 points and 13 rebounds (eight offensive) as the second-ranked Challengers topped Columbus State, 75-61. He made 8-of-14 (57%) from the floor and 9-of-11 (82%) at the charity stripe. Dove was also responsible for three blocks, three steals and an assist while turning the ball over just once in 30 minutes of action. He is now a three-time recipient this season (Dec. 4; Feb. 12).
MIKE RELL
Lorain County Community College
Sophomore guard
Rell lifted Lorain County to a pair of triumphs this week, both on the road over conference foes. He earns his fifth Player of the Week dinstinction of the season after averaging 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds (4.5 offensive), 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in the two wins. Rell hit 11-of-20 (55%) shots, including 3-for-5 from deep.
