SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Columbus State Community College swept the D-III OCCAC Basketball Player of the Week laurels for the second straight week with Destiny Wooten and Matthew Gierhart earning the honor while Owens Community College’s Da’Vina Shelton and Quintin Dove of Cuyahoga Community College were named the D-II recipients.

Shelton had the performance of the week, exploding for 40 points on 15-of-20 shooting, including a 10-of-14 effort from beyond the 3-point arc, in #5 Owens’ 132-31 domination at Hocking College. She did more than just score in the road win, however, also contributing nine rebounds, five assists and two steals to the lopsided team performance. This marks the first career weekly OCCAC honor for Shelton.

Wooten corralled her third weekly laurel of the season, also being tabbed as the player of the week on Dec. 4 and Jan. 8. This time around, the sophomore guarded posted 18 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals while committing a lone turnover in 40 minutes of action at #9 Sinclair. Columbus State Women’s Basketball has now been represented by the player of the week accolade for four straight weeks.
QUINTIN DOVE

Sophomore forward
Dove flew high this week, averaging 28.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game in a 3-0 week for the third-ranked Challengers. He recorded no less than 22 points and nine rebounds in any of the three contests while shooting 77% (36-47) from the floor and 13-of-16 (81%) on foul shots. Dove knocked down 10 or more field goals in all three games as Cuyahoga improved to 23-1 on the season. Dove is now a two-time honoree, also corralling player of the week recognition on Dec. 4.
MATTHEW GIERHART
Columbus State Community College
Sophomore forward
Gierhart registered 19 points and 14 rebounds in an 84-75 win over Sinclair this week. He knocked down 7-of-16 (44%) field goal attempts and all four free throws in 34 minutes of action.
