Reese, Owens WBB Headline OCCAC Women's Basketball Postseason Awards

Springfield, Ohio---Jeryn Reese, a sophomore forward from the Owens Community College women's basketball team, was voted the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Player of the Year.

Owens women's basketball head coach Michael Llanas was named the OCCAC Coach of the Year, and Owens sophomore guard Ariel Bethea was named the OCCAC's Defensive Player of the Year. Cincinnati State's Ashley Moore, a guard, won the OCCAC's Freshman of the Year award.

JERYN REESE - PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Reese, who also won the award as a freshman, becomes the first two-time OCCAC player of the year in the history of the Owens women's basketball program. She was one of only three players in conference play this year to average a double-double - joining Taylor Johnson of Clark State Community College and Keyvona Davis of Columbus State Community College.

In 16 conference games, Reese averaged 14.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.2 steals, 1.6 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. She had a season-high 24 points in a Feb. 11 win over Sinclair Community College and pulled down a season-high 17 rebounds in a win over Columbus State on Jan. 14. She also had eight double-doubles in those 16 games.

MICHAEL LLANAS - COACH OF THE YEAR

Owens head coach Michael Llanas led his team to a 30-0 regular season, including a 16-0 record in OCCAC play. It was the first undefeated regular season in the college's history, and he has now led the team to three consecutive perfect conference regular seasons, including 50 straight regular season conference wins. The award is his third straight and his fifth over the past seven seasons. He also won the award in 2006-07.

ARIEL BETHEA - DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Bethea, who led the nation in steals with 4.8 per game overall this year, averaged 13.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.4 blocks and 5.3 steals per game over 16 conference games. She scored double figures in 15 of 16 conference games and she had five or more steals in 12 of 16 games.

ASHLEY MOORE - FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR

Moore, a freshman guard for Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, averaged a team-high 15.2 points in conference play, while adding 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 3.9 steals per game. She scored double figures in all but two conference games, including a conference season-high of 31 points against Columbus State on Dec. 10. She scored her season-high with 37 points in a non-conference win over Vincennes University on Jan. 4.

ALL-DEFENSIVE TEAM

In addition to Bethea, Cincinnati State's Ashley Moore and Takyra Gilbert, Cuyahoga Community College's Daesia Avery, Sinclair Community College's Aaryn Evans and Reanna Dudley and Columbus State's Allyse Rutter were named to this year's OCCAC All-Defensive team.

ALL-FRESHMEN TEAM

In addition to Moore, Cincinnati State's Takyra Gilbert, Clark State Community College's Taylor Johnson, Owens Community College's Essence Cowan, Sinclair Community College's Madison Connally-Banks and Lakeland Community College's Alicia Sephus were named to this year's OCCAC All-Freshmen team.

ALL-OCCAC TEAM

First Team

This year's First Team All-OCCAC includes Reese (Owens), Moore (Cincinnati State), Darian Carter (Cuyahoga), Bethea (Owens), Carli Codner-Pinto (Columbus State) and Sydney Miller (Edison).

Second Team

This year's Second Team All-OCCAC includes Dudley (Sinclair), Gilbert (Cincinnati State), Johnson (Clark State), Ebony Young (Cuyahoga) and Cowan (Owens).

Honorable Mention

This year's Honorable Mention All-OCCAC team includes Connally-Banks (Sinclair), Patricia Cistrunk (Lakeland), Davis (Columbus State), Jacie Dickerson (Cincinnati State), Sephus (Lakeland), Evans (Sinclair), Carly Buzzard (Edison), Madi Bonner (Lorain County), Brenda Pennington (Owens), Hunter Kershaw (Columbus State) and Lauren Roetgerman (Sinclair).

DISTRICT AWARDS

Reese and Codner-Pinto were named the Division II and Division III District Player of the Year recipients, as well.

Finishing behind Reese in Division II voting (in order) were: Moore, Carter, Bethea, Miller and Dudley.

Finishing behind Codner-Pinto in Division III voting (in order) were: Kershaw, Davis and Bonner.
