Harris, Reese Take Home OCCAC Player of the Year Honors

Reshardd Harris, a sophomore forward for No. 5 Sinclair Community College's men's basketball team, and Jeryn Reese, a freshman forward for the No. 7 Owens Community College women's basketball team, have each been named the OCCAC Player of the Year in their respective sports.

In addition, Sinclair Community College men's basketball head coach Jeff Price and Owens Community College women's basketball head coach Michael Llanas were each named the OCCAC Coach of the Year in their respective sports.

OCCAC Men's Basketball Awards

Reshardd Harris

In men's basketball, Harris and Price helped lead Sinclair to a 27-2 overall record and a 13-1 mark in OCCAC play during the regular season, which gave the team its first OCCAC championship since 2007-08. They routed Clark State Community College in the Region XII District 11 quarterfinals on Tuesday and will take on Cuyahoga Community College at 6 p.m. this evening in the semifinals.

In 14 OCCAC games, Harris averaged 16.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He shot 54.4 percent from the field, as well, while finishing ninth in the league in scoring and third in rebounding.

In addition, Harris was a three-time OCCAC Player of the Week this year.

First Team All-OCCAC

In addition to Harris, five other student-athletes earned First Team All-OCCAC honors in men's basketball including Chris Scott of Lakeland Community College, Manny Powell of Sinclair Community College, Malik Thurman of Edison Community College, Kash Blackwell of Cuyahoga Community College and Xavier Cochran of Owens Community College.

Thurman (19.9 PPG) and Scott (18.9 PPG) finished as the league's top two scorers, while Blackwell (18.8 PPG) finished fourth. Cochran (17.4 PPG) came in sixth. Scott (8.0 RPG), Blackwell (7.9 RPG) and Thurman (7.5 RPG) each also finished in the top 10 in rebounding.

Powell led the league in assists and was fourth in steals.

Second Team All-OCCAC

The 2015-16 All-OCCAC Second Team includes Nic Williams of Columbus State, Justin Baker of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Kevin Jenkins of Lorain County Community College, Derrik Jamerson Jr. of Owens Community College, Rodney Willis of Columbus State Community College and Rico Jones Jr. of Cuyahoga Community College.

Jenkins finished tied for second in the league in scoring at 18.9 PPG, while Baker finished seventh at 17.3 PPG. Baker also finished sixth in assists and seventh in steals. Williams finished 13th in scoring at 14.9 PPG, Jamerson finished 15th at 14.3 PPG, Willis finished 11th at 15.6 PPG and Jones Jr. finished 19th at 13.0 PPG.

Honorable Mention All-OCCAC

Rounding out this year's All-OCCAC team were Honorable Mention All-OCCAC selections: Jalen Hearn of Edison Community College, Akiean Frederick of Sinclair Community College, Jay Thomas of Lakeland Community College, Marcellous Washington of Sinclair Community College, Robert Caldwell of Columbus State Community College, Brandon Trotter and Corey Smith of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Ouddi Hamdan of Lorain County Community College, Kenny Moore of Columbus State Community College and Mike Smith of Lakeland Community College.

Standings

Coming in just behind Sinclair in the 2015-16 men's basketball standings was Columbus State at 10-4. Lakeland and Owens each finished 9-5, Cuyahoga was 7-7, Cincinnati State and Edison were 3-11 and Lorain County was 2-12. Clark State Community College competed against OCCAC teams all year, but weren't eligible for OCCAC awards or standings due to this being their probationary year.

Women's Baskeball

Jeryn Reese

In women's basketball, Reese and Llanas helped lead Owens to a 24-6 overall record and a 14-0 mark in OCCAC play. It was the program's fourth straight OCCAC championship. They earned a quarterfinal round bye in the Region XII District I tournament and will take on Columbus State Community College at 1 p.m. today in a semifinal game.

In 14 OCCAC games, Reese averaged 16.1 points, 12.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. She shot 46.4 percent from the field, while finishing eighth in the league in scoring, second in rebounding, third in steals and fifth in blocks. During the season, she was a four-time OCCAC player of the week and a one-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Player of the Week.

First Team All-OCCAC

Aside from Reese, also earned First Team All-OCCAC honors are Samia Carter of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Brooke Dunlevy of Edison Community College, Madison Schroeder of Sinclair Community College, Carli Codner-Pinto of Columbus State Community College and Lakyn Gulley of Owens Community College.

Codner-Pinto (20.9 PPG) and Dunlevy (20.7 PPG) finished 1-2 in scoring in the OCCAC, while Gulley (14.4 PPG) and Schroeder (14.4 PPG) tied for 11th in scoring. Carter finished 15th in the league in scoring (13.0 PPG), first in assists (9.2 APG) and first in steals (4.4 SPG). Gulley finished second in steals (4.1 SPG) and third in assists (4.8 APG). Schroeder was eighth in rebounds at 8.5 per game.

Second Team All-OCCAC

Earning Second Team All-OCCAC honors are Darian Carter of Cuyahoga Community College, Montrail Roberts of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Hunter Kershaw of Columbus State Community College, Chloe Baird of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and Alona Skipper of Sinclair Community College.

Carter averaged 16.4 PPG (6th), Roberts averaged 16.1 PPG (9th), Kershaw averaged 18.0 PPG (3rd), Baird averaged 16.3 PPG (7th) and Skipper averaged 12.9 PPG (16th).

Honorable Mention All-OCCAC

The Honorable Mention All-OCCAC team includes: Keri Hill of Cuyahoga Community College, Onyx Lopez of Lorain County Community College, Tatyana Reynolds and Briana Williams of Owens Community College, Keyvona Davis of Columbus State Community College, Jaelah Dye and Aloneet Durden of Lakeland Community College, Sydney Miller of Edison Community College, Ashtin Brandon of Sinclair Community College and Brooke Pothast of Columbus State Community College.

Standings

Finishing behind Owens in this year's standings were Cincinnati State and Cuyahoga at 10-4, Columbus State at 7-7, Sinclair at 6-8, Edison at 5-9, Lakeland at 4-10 and Lorain County at 0-14. Clark State Community College competed against OCCAC teams all year, but weren't eligible for OCCAC awards or standings due to this being their probationary year.
