OCCAC Honors Four Student-Athletes With D-II, D-III POTW Recognition

Springfield, Ohio---Derrik Jamerson Jr., Lauren Roetgerman, Matthew Gierhart and Keyvona Davis have been named the OCCAC D-II and D-III player of the week recipients for games played Jan. 30-Feb. 5. 

NJCAA Division II OCCAC WBB Player of the Week
Lauren Roetgerman, Sinclair C.C.

Roetgerman, a freshman forward, recorded a season-high 23 points twice in a pair of wins for Sinclair Community College last week. In doing so, she averaged 23 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 3.5 steals and two blocks per game.

In her team's 87-58 win over Columbus State, Roetgerman had 23 points, six rebounds, three steals, three blocks and one assist while shooting 9-for-15 from the field (5-for-10 from 3-point range). Then, in a 74-43 win over Lakeland Community College, she had 23 points on 9-for-17 shooting along with seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and one block.

Roetgerman, who joined the team late this year after also playing volleyball, is now averaging 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game for Sinclair (18-4 overall, 7-3 OCCAC). In conference play, she is averaging 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals and one assist per game.

NJCAA Division III OCCAC WBB Player of the Week
Keyvona Davis, Columbus State C.C.

Despite her team picking up two losses last week, Davis had another solid week for her team to become a back-to-back player of the week recipient. The sophomore forward averaged 12 points, nine rebounds, one assist, one steals and 3.5 blocks per game.

In her team's 87-58 loss to Sinclair, Davis had seven points, eight rebounds, two assists, three blocks and one steal. Then, in a 92-62 loss to Cincinnati State, she had 17 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and one steal.

Overall, Davis is averaging 10.4 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.1 blocks per game for Columbus State (7-12 overall, 4-6 OCCAC). In conference play, she is averaging 11.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.7 assist and 2.5 blocks per game.

Columbus State will be back in action on Wednesday at Lakeland Community College.

NJCAA Division II MBB Player of the Week
Derrik Jamerson Jr., Owens C.C.

Jamerson broke a pair of 3-point shooting records last week while averaging 26 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, two blocks and 1.5 steals per game.

In his team's 72-54 loss to No. 4 Cuyahoga Community College, Jamerson had 12 points, five rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist. Then, in a 127-74 win over Hocking College, the sophomore guard erupted for a career-high 40 points, along with eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks, one assist and one steal. In the game, he finished 12-for-18 from 3-point range, which broke the Owens single game records for most makes and attempts in one game.

Jamerson is now averaging 16.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks per game for Owens (16-7 overall, 6-3 OCCAC). In conference play, he is averaging 14.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.9 steals, 1.8 assists and 1.8 blocks per game.

Owens will be back in action on Wednesday at Lorain County Community College.

NJCAA Division III MBB Player of the Week
Matthew Gierhart, Columbus State C.C.

Gierhart, a freshman forward, helped lead Columbus State to a pair of upset wins over two ranked NJCAA Division II teams by averaging 24.5 points, six rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 21-37 from the field.

In his team's 101-99 win over No. 19 Sinclair Community College, Gierhart shot 9-for-15 from the field for 19 points, while adding three rebounds and two assists. Then, in a 103-100 win over No. 20 Cincinnati State, he hit the game-winning shot with less than a minute left and totaled 30 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one block while shooting 12-for-22 from the field. 

Giehart is now averaging 18.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists over 18 starts for Columbus State (7-11 overall, 5-5 OCCAC). In conference play, he is averaging 20 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

The award is the third of the season for Giehart, who also won on Dec. 11 and Jan. 15. His team will be back in action on Wednesday at Lakeland Community College.
