OCCAC Honors Four Student-Athletes With D-II, D-III POTW Recognition

Springfield, Ohio---Darian Carter, Keyvona Davis, Marquevious Wilson and Rodney Willis have been named the OCCAC D-II and D-III player of the week recipients for games played Feb. 6-12.

NJCAA Division II OCCAC WBB Player of the Week
Darian Carter, Cuyahoga C.C.

Carter, a sophomore guard, averaged 37 points, 9.5 rebounds and one block per game last week to help Cuyahoga Community College pick up a pair of wins over Hocking College and Clark State.

In her team's 87-56 win over Hocking, Carter produced 29 points and 11 rebounds on 9-for-14 shooting. Then, in her team's 96-64 win over Clark State, she had 45 points, eight rebounds, one block and one steal. She finished 11-for-15 from the field. In the two games combined, she also shot 22-for-33 from the free throw line.

Carter is now averaging 25.3 points and 7.6 rebounds in conference play, while her team is now 18-5 overall and 8-3 in OCCAC play. Cuyahoga will be back in action on Wednesday at Columbus State Community College.

Carter also won the award on Jan. 15 of this year, as well as Dec. 6 of last year.

NJCAA Division III OCCAC WBB Player of the Week
Keyvona Davis, Columbus State C.C.

Davis continued a torrid stretch that has now seen her win three consecutive player of the week awards. This past week, the sophomore forward from Columbus State averaged 20.5 points, 21.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and six blocks per game as her team picked up a pair of wins over Lakeland and Hocking.

In a 94-54 win over Lakeland, Davis had 20 points (8-for-14 shooting), 22 rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals. Then, in a 98-53 win over Hocking, she had 20 points (10-for-15 shooting), 21 rebounds, eight blocks, two assists and one steal.

Davis is now averaging 12.7 points, 12.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.6 blocks per game in conference play for Columbus State, which is 9-12 overall and 5-6 in OCCAC play. Her team will be back in action on Wednesday at home against Cuyahoga.

Columbus State's women's basketball team has now won seven straight player of the week awards at the Division III level. Allyse Rutter (Jan. 15), Hunter Kershaw (Jan. 22) and Carli Codner-Pinto (Dec. 18, Jan. 1) won the award previously.

Marquevious Wilson, Owens C.C.

Wilson, a freshman guard, led his team to a pair of close wins over Lorain County and Sinclair last week by averaging 21.5 points, nine rebounds, three assists and one steal per game.

In his team's 92-87 win over Lorain County, Wilson had a team-high 23 points off the bench, while adding 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals. He finished 8-for-12 from the field (4-for-6 from 3-point range). Then, in his team's 88-83 win over Sinclair, he finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists on 5-for-12 shooting (4-for-8 from 3-point range).

Wilson is now averaging 14.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game in conference play for Owens, which travels to Edison on Wednesday.

The award was Wilson's first of the season.

Rodney Willis, Columbus State C.C.

Willis, a sophomore guard, averaged 20 points, eight rebounds, two assists, 1.5 steals and one block per game for Columbus State Community College in a pair of wins last week.

In his team's 76-71 win over Lakeland, Willis had 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block on 6-for-11 shooting. Then, in a 92-74 win over Hocking, he had 25 points, nine rebounds, two steals and one block on 11-for-23 shooting.

Overall, Willis is now averaging 16.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and one block per game for Columbus State in conference play. His team is now 9-11 overall and 6-5 in OCCAC play. They will be back in action on Wednesday at home against Cuyahoga.

For Willis, this week's award is his first of the season and the second of his career. He also won the award on March 6 of last year. Outside of him, Mario Young (Jan. 29, Jan. 1, Dec. 18) and Matthew Gierhart (Feb. 5, Jan. 15 and Dec. 11) have also won the award from Columbus State this year.
