Springfield, Ohio---The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) has named Akiean Frederick and Kaylah Ivey the player of the week recipients in men's and women's basketball, respectively.

Frederick, who won the season's first OCCAC player of the week award on Nov. 6, continued his torrid start to the season. Not only has he led Sinclair Community College's men's basketball team to a 6-0 start, but he has been the main reason why.

Last week, Frederick averaged 29.5 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. In his team's 89-87 win over Harrisburg Area Community College, the redshirt sophomore forward had 35 points on 16-for-21 shooting, along with 12 rebounds, four steals, one assist and one block. Then, in a 100-77 win over Montgomery County Community College, he had 24 points on 7-for-14 shooting, along with 10 rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks.

Overall this year, Frederick has five double-doubles over a six-game span, and he finished just one rebound shy of a double-double in the one game he didn't. During that span, he is averaging 26.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.8 blocks per game.

Frederick and the Sinclair men's basketball team will be back in action on Monday against Ohio University - Chillicothe.

Ivey, meanwhile, has been a key part to a deep Owens Community College women's basketball team that has also started 6-0 this year. The freshman forward helped lead Owens to three victories last week by averaging 9.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and one steal per game.

In her team's 81-42 win over No. 15 Schoolcraft College, Ivey had 14 points on 4-for-8 shooting, along with 13 rebounds (8 offensive). In 13 minutes of a 78-55 win over No. 12 Kalamazoo Valley Community College, she had four points on 2-for-5 shooting, seven rebounds and one steal. Then, in a 92-34 win over Grand Rapids Community College, she had 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting, along with five rebounds, two steals and one block.

Ivey never played more than 19 minutes in any of her three games last week, as well. Thus, her per 40 minute averages would have been 20 points and 19 rebounds.

This year, Ivey is averaging 8.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Her team will be back in action next Wednesday at home against No. 15 Schoolcraft College.

Congratulations to both of these players!
