Moore, Gierhart Claim OCCAC POTW Honors

Springfield, Ohio---Matthew Gierhart and Ashley Moore have been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player of the week recipients in men's and women's basketball, respectively.

Gierhart, a freshman forward from Columbus State Community College, poured in 26 points in Columbus State's close 90-84 loss to Cincinnati State on Saturday. He went 11-for-18 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line, and he added five rebounds, one steal and one block.

The Worthington (OH) Kilbourne High School product has averaged 25.7 points per game over the past three contests and is now averaging 19.4 points, 9.3 rebounds and one assist per game. He is Columbus State's leading scorer.

Columbus State is 1-7 overall and 0-1 in OCCAC play. They will be back in action tomorrow at Sinclair Community College at 7:30 p.m.

Moore, meanwhile, poured in 31 points to lead Cincinnati State to an 81-59 win over Columbus State on Saturday. It was her team's lone game of the week.

In the win, the freshman guard from Felicity-Franklin (OH) High School, went 10-for-17 from the field, including a 6-for-11 finish from 3-point range. She made five of six from the foul line and added three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Moore, who is also Cincinnati State's leading scorer, is averaging 18.3 points, two rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game this year. She has reached double figures in scoring in every game.

Cincinnati State is 8-1 overall this year and 1-0 in OCCAC play. They will be back in action tomorrow at home against Clark State Community College.
