Fresh Faces, Award Veterans Close Out Season’s Final Weekly Laurels

First-time honorees, Skyler Kries (Cuyahoga) and Ethan Hyme (Bryant & Stratton, OH), secured the OCCAC’s final weekly baseball honors while Edison State’s Grace Shaffer and Hanna DeLong ran their combined career total to nine awards.

Skyler Kries | Baseball Pitcher of the Week | Cuyahoga
Kries toed the rubber as Cuyahoga clinched the conference’s #1 seed for D-II postseason play with a complete game win over Bryant & Stratton (OH). He maneuvered around three hits, two walks and a defensive error behind him to allow a lone unearned run in seven innings of work. Kries was tough to touch, striking out 10 batters.

Ethan Hyme | Baseball Position Player of the Week | Bryant & Stratton (OH)
Hyme accumulated 18 runs in six games, driving in 11 and scoring seven more. He posted a .550 on-base percentage and smacked three homeruns. Hyme was huge in the Bobcats handing Cuyahoga just their second and third leagues losses of the season, racking up six RBI in the first triumph and a seventh in the ensuing one.

Grace Shaffer | Softball Pitcher of the Week | Edison State
Shaffer garnered four wins in the circle, three of which came in complete game efforts. The fourth was a 5-inning relief appearance allowing Edison State to battle out of an early hole and ultimately come away as 12-5 victors at Cuyahoga.

Hanna DeLong | Softball Position Player of the Week | Edison State
DeLong strung together five consecutive games with two or more RBI, including a 5-RBI explosion, and a total of 16 RBI during the Chargers 6-2 week. She registered a dozen hits with a double and a homerun while scoring five more runs.
