Conference Rewards Top Weekly Volleyball Performances

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Elizabeth Sicking’s dominance of the OCCAC D-II Volleyball Player of the Week award continues while Summer Sweeting lifted Owens Community College to a clinching of the conference title to earn her first career D-III Player of the Week recognition.

Sicking gathered her third consecutive and fifth of 2019 weekly league accolade after crushing it in a pair of road OCCAC clashes. For the week, she racked up over seven points per set while attacking .425 and connecting for six service snipes. Sicking got it done defensively as well, digging 1.88 balls/set and contributing three solo swats. In a five-set victory at Edison State, she delivered 35 kills, 10 digs and four aces.

Sweeting and the then-third-ranked Express clinched sole possession of their fourth straight OCCAC regular season title last week with wins over Cuyahoga, No. 2 Columbus State and Hocking College. Owens elevated to the NJCAAD-III Coaches Poll top spot at 31-6. Sweeting dished out 6.78 assists per set and fired home nine service aces during the championship-clinching week.
