Lakeland, Sinclair Sweep Spring POTW Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Lakeland Softball’s Gabriella Monastero and Glendy Bergdorf earned this week’s OCCAC Player and Pitcher of the Week awards while Matt Meyer and Jake Webb of Sinclair brought home the weekly baseball accolades.

MATT MEYER
Sinclair Community College | Baseball Player of the Week
Meyer batted .500 (5-10) and slugged 1.200 while drawing two walks for a 1.783 OPS. He and the Tartan Pride not only went 3-0, but did so in dominant fashion by defeating the opposition by a combined score of 35-2. Meyer drove in a half dozen runs and scored seven tallies himself. His extra-base hits included a homerun and two triples. He was a true utility player, spending time at seven different defensive positions (all infield and all outfield positions).

GABRIELLA MONASTERO
Lakeland Community College | Softball Player of the Week
Monastero went 2-for-3 at the dish in both Lakeland wins last week. She was directly responsible for nine runs, scoring five and driving in four more. Monastero reached based at a .750 clip for the week and swiped two bags once on the base paths.

JAKE WEBB
Sinclair Community College | Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Webb hurled a run-rule shortened complete game (five innings) to earn the win over Edison State in a ‘nonconference’ game. He struck out nine batters in five scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit and one walk.

GLENDY BERGDORF
Lakeland Community College | Softball Pitcher of the Week
Bergdorf stood in the circle for all five frames and fanned three batters in a truncated 9-2 road win at Ohio University-Chillicothe. She notched a complete game win by scattering two hits and two walks. Bergdorf was the victim of two fielding errors behind her, allowing for a pair of unearned runs to come across.
