Diamond Dogs Earn Weekly OCCAC Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Mike Sears (Sinclair) and Lexie Long (Edison State) earned OCCAC Baseball and Softball Player of the Week recognition for March 3-17. The two institutions swapped sports for Pitcher of the Week honors with Sinclair’s Ashley Brown picking up the softball nod and Layne Riley of Edison State bringing home the baseball award.

Sinclair Community College | Baseball Player of the Week
Sears posted an OPS (on-base % + slugging) of 1.767 by striking two homeruns, two doubles and two singles in 12 at-bats while drawing three walks. He also scored six runs and stole a base during the Tartan Pride’s 3-1 week. Sears was the conference’s player of the week on Feb. 18 as well.

LEXIE LONG
Edison State Community College | Softball Player of the Week
Long hit .522 (12-23) and slugged 1.000 during the Chargers’ 4-2 week. She posted multiple hits in all four wins, going 12-for-19 with nine RBI, three doubles, two homeruns and a triple during the four-game winning streak to end the week. Long was also responsible for 11 runs scored and a half dozen stolen bases.

Edison State Community College | Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Riley chewed up seven innings to earn the win during the Chargers’ 5-2 victory over Ivy Tech Northeast. Two runs came across, only one earned, as he scattered four hits and three walks. A dozen batters were sat down via the strikeout.

Sinclair Community College | Softball Pitcher of the Week
Brown corrals her third weekly honor through the first month of the season. She needed to work overtime for this latest distinction, logging nine innings inside the circle during a victorious 2-1 extended contest. Her complete game win included five hits which were matched by five strikeouts.
