Baseball Stand-outs Honored by OCCAC Following Opening Weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The third-ranked Tartan Pride of Sinclair Community College opened up the 2020 baseball season by taking three of four games against Macomb Community College. Two members of the squad shined brightest and earned OCCAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week distinction. Right fielder Seth Gergely snags the position player honor while Gage Voorhees was the top hurler.

Gergely batted .500 (7-14) with four RBI, two triples and a double during a 3-1 weekend for the Tartan Pride. He also drew three walks and registered an OPS of 1.445 (.588 OBP + .857 slugging). Gergely was a pest on the basepaths as well, swiping three bags and scoring at least one run in all four games (five total runs).

Voorhees started Game 3 and tossed a gem. He toed the rubber for six of the game’s seven innings, surrendering a lone run to earn the win. Voorhees fanned 10 batters and retired 19 of 24 faced.
