Tri-C's Chanavier Robinson Earns All-America Status in Long Jump

From Cuyahoga Community College Athletics:
CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga Community College long jumper Chanavier Robinson landed on the podium with All-American honors at the 2018 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Robinson placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 3.25 inches. The mark — a personal best — came on her second-to-last jump in the completion and lifted her onto the medal stand.

She also finished eighth in the event at the 2018 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, where she set her previous personal record.

“Chanavier comes through when it counts,” said Don Cox, the College’s longtime track coach.

The All-American finish caps a season that included Robinson winning five titles at the regional meet. Cox said several four-year schools have offered Robinson scholarships for next season.

The sophomore from Ravenna is studying nursing at Tri-C.

Other Tri-C student-athletes who placed at nationals included Vanessa Lane (freshman/Tallmadge), who finished 15th in the heptathlon, and Kamry Brown (freshman/Lima), who finished 23rd in the 400-meter dash.

The College’s 4x800-meter relay team finished 11th at the meet. The team was comprised of Brown, Caroline Lapish (sophomore/Madison), Sonnie Sauvinsky (sophomore/Rootstown) and Shelbie Sporcich (sophomore/Ashtabula).

As a team, Tri-C finished 30th at the championships.
