Bryant & Stratton Baseball, Owens Softball Haul in Weekly Awards

John Costella and Koby Zupko of Bryant & Stratton (OH), Hayley Kanzig and Autumn Rose Brososky of Owens are the OCCAC Player and Pitcher of the Week honorees for April 5-11, 2021.

JOHN COSTELLA – baseball player of the week
Bryant & Stratton College (OH)
Costella cracked four hits, including two doubles, during a 3-1 week for the Bobcats. He came around to score four runs and drove in two more. Add in a walk and Costella’s OPS rose above the 1.000 mark for the week.

KOBY ZUPKO – baseball pitcher of the week
Bryant & Stratton College (OH)
Zupko delivered four scoreless frames in a 6-1 victory over Lakeland. He struck out half the batters he faced (7 of 14) and allowed just two runners to reach base.

HAYLEY KANZIG – softball player of the week
Owens Community College
Kanzig went 8-for-11 (.727) with a pair of homers and 10 RBI in three games played. Both dingers came in the same game, the latter of which was a walk-off grand slam to transform a 6-2 lead into the 10-2 mercy rule finish. Kanzig connected on multiple hits in all three contests and slugged 1.272.

AUTUMN ROSE BROSOSKY – softball pitcher of the week
Owens Community College
Brososky logged 17 innings pitched while appearing in all four games. She put forth complete game wins in both starts. For the week, Brososky registered a mind-blowing 21:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. She scattered 13 hits and the lone free pass to offer up only five runs (three earned) in the very busy week.
