SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Competition for OCCAC weekly honors was tough on March 25 as several strong nominations came in. Evan Knaus (Eastern Gateway), Megan Mulhan (Cuyahoga), Noah Richard (Owens) and Cierra Chastain (Sinclair) rose above the rest, however, and were voted as the Players and Pitchers of the Week for baseball and softball.
EVAN KNAUS
Eastern Gateway Community College | Baseball Player of the Week
Knaus connected on at least one hit in all five games last week, including four multi-hit contests, to bat .632 (12-19) for the week. He drilled two doubles and a homerun for an OPS of 1.579 with 10 RBI and three runs scored. In four league games at Clark State, Knaus totaled 11 hits and drove in 10 runs to earn the Gators’ first OCCAC Player of the Week award (Noah Laster became the first Pitcher of the Week earlier this season).
MEGAN MULHAN
Cuyahoga Community College | Softball Player of the Week
Mulhan recorded eight hits, four of the extra-base variety (two doubles, triple, homerun), to bat .615 (8-13) for the week. She slugged 1.154 and added a walk for an OPS of 1.846. Mulhan racked up eight RBI and scored twice during a 4-0 stretch for the Triceratops.
NOAH RICHARD
Owens Community College | Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Richard tossed a complete game (7-inning) shutout in the Express’ 5-0 victory over Lakeland. He earned the win by scattering four hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters.
CIERRA CHASTAIN
Sinclair Community College | Softball Pitcher of the Week
Chastain tallied three wins last week and worked the circle for a total of 15 innings as the Tartan Pride went 5-1 overall. She struck out 1.8 batters per inning pitched, totaling 27 K’s for the week. Chastain earned wins against three different opponents, doing so in starts at Rio Grande JV, versus Lansing and in a 4-inning relief stint against Mercyhurst North East. She posted no less than eight strikeouts and four innings pitched in all three appearances while allowed a grand total of zero earned runs to come across the dish.
