OCCAC Softball Debuts and Baseball Hands Out Third Set of Weekly Awards

Clark State got the ball rolling for softball season, splitting a two-game series with UC Clermont and picking up both OCCAC Player (Alexis Harville) and Pitcher (Mariah Crawford) of the Week honors. The baseball awards were divided between Owens (Steve Haugh; Player) and Clark State (Brad Vargas; Pitcher).

STEVE HAUGH – baseball player of the week

Haugh and the Express sit at 6-0 three weeks into the season. The last seven days saw a four-game sweep of Mid Michigan College which included Haugh slugging .700 and reaching base at a .571 clip. He went 4-for-10 overall while scoring five runs after a patient approach at the plate resulted in drawing four walks. Haugh drove in a pair of runs and connected on a homerun.

BRAD VARGAS – baseball pitcher of the week

Vargas hurled a seven-inning complete game shutout at WSU Lake. He fanned 11 batters while offering up just five hits and two walks.

ALEXIS HARVILLE – softball player of the week
Clark State Community College
Harville reached based twice and scored a run in both games. She ripped a double in Game 2 vs. UC Clermont, raising her week’s OPS (on-base percentage + slugging) to 1.171.

MARIAH CRAWFORD – softball pitcher of the week
Clark State Community College
Crawford owned the circle for all seven innings of the season opener. She earned the win by scattering six hits and three walks to allow a lone earned run (three runs total). Crawford was very effective in missing bats, racking up 11 K’s.
