New Season, Same Prestigious Weekly Awards!

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The 2019 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference volleyball season began with a two-day appetizer of competition over the weekend of Aug. 23-24. Two OCCAC student-athletes, Whitney Pleiman (Edison State) and Tyriana Settles (Owens), stood out above the rest and were bestowed the league’s first Player of the Week adulation for ’19.

Pleiman put together a gritty performance in a pair of Charger victories, including an insane 62-dig effort against OCCAC foe Cuyahoga (averaging over a dozen digs per set). For the week, Pleiman put forth 9.88 digs/set, adding a service ace and an assist.  

TYRIANA SETTLES
Owens Community College | D-III
Settles lifted The Express to a 4-0 mark in the season’s opening weekend. She contributed offensively and defensively with averages of 4.50 kills and 1.64 digs per set. She attacked .296 (63-13-169) and posted eight aces, five blocks as Owens dropped just three sets total in the four wins. Settles was responsible for 74 points overall (5.29/set).
