Four Squads Rep’ed in this Week’s OCCAC Honors

Noah Blank (Owens), Tatianna Matuz (Lakeland), Ben Scartz (Clark State) and Grace Shaffer (Edison State) all put forth extraordinary effort March 28-April 3, and each earned a weekly honor from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

TATIANNA MATUZ | Softball (Position) Player of the Week
Lakeland Community College
Matuz continued her hot streak this past week, putting together a blazing doubleheader at Owens. The freshman catcher smacked two homers in six at-bats and reached based in six of eight plate appearances. She garnered four RBI and scored three runs of her own.

BEN SCARTZ | Baseball (Position) Player of the Week
Clark State College
Scartz elevated the Eagles to four wins last week, batting .500 (7-14) with three dingers, seven RBI and six runs. He tallied a homerun and multiple RBI in three of four contests, scoring at least one run in all four.

Scartz also won the honor as a freshman on March 1, 2021.

GRACE SHAFFER | Softball Pitcher of the Week
Edison State Community College
Shaffer picked up the win and her second weekly honor after surrendering a lone earned run in the Chargers’ narrow 5-4 triumph over Miami University Middletown. Shaffer scattered five hits and three walks while striking out three batters.

NOAH BLANK | Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Owens  Community College
Blank toed the rubber for 16 innings across two stellar outings. He began the week with a 7-inning complete game shutout of Hocking, striking out 11 Hawks. Blank came back just as strong in his second start of the week, delivering nine innings versus Lakeland during a 14-inning affair. He sat down another 13 batters via strikeout in that one. For the week, Blank allowed just one run to come across on eight hits and three walks while posting two dozen K’s.
