Bobcat Baseball, Express Softball Give Award-Worthy Efforts

Torrey Roper and Brad Wolfe (Bryant & Stratton Baseball), Valerie Swope and Sydni Buhrow (Owens Softball) are the OCCAC Player and Pitcher of the Week honorees for April 19-25.

TORREY ROPER – baseball player of the week
Bryant & Stratton College (OH)
Roper extends the Bobcat streak to six consecutive baseball player of the week honors, and is the first multi-time winner. He lifted Bryant & Stratton (OH) to a 3-1 mark last week, directly responsible for 14 runs with nine RBI and five runs scored. Roper cracked two homeruns and a double in 13 at-bats, hitting .538 (7-13) for the week. He drove in two or more runs in three of four contests.

BRAD WOLFE – baseball pitcher of the week
Bryant & Stratton College (OH)
Wolfe went 2-0 after earning the win in both a 3-inning relief appearance and a 6-inning start. He totaled 11 strikeouts in the nine innings of work, surrendering a lone run on five hits and four walks. The Bobcats trailed 6-5 when Wolfe came out the pen and steadied the ship at Ashley University, allowing his squad to corral an 8-6 comeback victory. He then chewed up all but one inning in a 14-3 win over Clark State.

VALERIE SWOPE – softball player of the week
Owens Community College
Swope tore it up in a pair of doubleheaders versus Lakeland and Bryant & Stratton (OH). She went 9-for-15 (.600) at the dish and came around to score six times while driving in four more runs. Swope rarely stopped at first base, sprinting past for three doubles and three triples for a 1.200 slugging percentage.

SYDNI BUHROW – softball pitcher of the week
Owens Community College
Zero earned runs came across in Buhrow’s two appearances spanning six innings. Despite being the victim of defensive blunders behind her handing over three unearned runs, Buhrow battled to pick up the win in her start vs. Bryant & Stratton (OH). She matched the six baserunners allowed (four hits, two walks) with six strikeouts.
