Diamond Dazzlers Earn First Weekly Honors of 2023

For the second year in a row, Edison State’s Grace Shaffer has opened the season by being named the OCCAC Pitcher of the Week. It marks her third career award, and she is joined this week by teammate Kaela May, classmate Andrew Year and Cullen McFarland of Owens Baseball as the conference’s first honorees of 2023.

Grace Shaffer | Softball Pitcher of the Week | Edison State
Shaffer picked up the win over Wilmington College JV by tossing a complete game with six strikeouts. She maneuvered around 15 hits in allowing five runs, four earned, in the Charger victory.

Kaela May | Softball Position Player of the Week | Edison State
May went 4-for-7 (.571) with two doubles and three RBI during a pair of contests vs. Wilmington. She also drew a pair of walks and scored two runs during the split week.

Andrew Yeary | Baseball Pitcher of the Week | Edison State
Yeary and the Chargers opened the ’23 campaign by going on the road and taking Game 1 at Ivy Tech Northeast, 8-3. Yeary was the winning pitcher after lasting 5.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks while striking out a half dozen batters.

Cullen McFarland | Baseball Position Player of the Week | Owens
McFarland drove in 10 runs on six hits (6-17), including four extra-base knocks, for a 1.059 OPS. He cracked two doubles and two triples during a 4-0 start to the season for the Express.
