Basketball is Back; Weekly Recognition Resumes

A handful of schools from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) returned to the hardwood last week (Jan. 25-31) after nearly a year away from competition. Landon Sprigler (Hocking College) and Alaina Lyons (Clark State) were voted as the top performers and elevated as the first OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week for 2021.

LANDON SPRIGLER – men’s player of the week
Hocking College
Sprigler did it all in a pair of OCCAC clashes, stuffing the stat sheet with weekly totals of 35 points, 15 rebounds, 12 assists, three blocks and two steals while playing 78 of a possible 80 minutes. He followed up a 21-point performance versus Bryant & Stratton (OH) by posting a triple-double (14 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) in an 86-66 victory over Clark State. Sprigler converted on 16-of-26 (62%) field goal attempts overall.

ALAINA LYONS – women’s player of the week
Clark State Community College
Lyons paced the Eagles with 23 points in the lone women’s contest of the week. Clark State needed every one of Lyons’ points, too, coming away with a 66-65 triumph over the University of Northwestern Ohio (JV). She connected on nine shots from the floor including four from downtown. Lyons logged all 40 minutes and added five rebounds, three assists and a steal in the winning effort.

**Just one men’s and one women’s player will be selected for the weekly accolade this season because of limited league teams competing (no D-II/D-III separation)
