Three OCCAC Hoopers Earn Special Recognition

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Kayla Young (Cuyahoga) and Mickale Bates (Columbus State) were named the OCCAC Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for Dec. 9-15 while Sinclair’s Ryan Stowers snagged the men’s weekly honor.

Cuyahoga Community College | D-II Women’s Player of the Week
Young averaged a double-double (20.0 points, 12.5 rebounds) in lifting the Triceratops to a 2-0 mark and tournament title. She shot 53% (17-32) from the floor and added five steals, two assists and two blocks. Ten of her 25 rebounds came on the offensive glass. Young picks up Cuyahoga Women’s Basketball’s first weekly award of the season.

MICKALE BATES
Columbus State Community College | D-III Women’s Player of the Week
Bates was impressive in a 2-0 week for the Cougars, registering 27.0 points, 5.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. She was lethal from beyond the arc, knocking down 10-of-15 from long range. Bates was ultra-efficient at the charity tripe as well, sinking 16-of-18 foul shots. This represents Bates’ second weekly award of the season.

RYAN STOWERS
Sinclair Community College | D-II Men’s Player of the Week
Stowers brings in his third OCCAC accolade of 2019-20. He poured in 34 points on 12-of-16 (75%) shooting, including 4-for-4 from long range, in Sinclair’s lone game of the week. Stowers carried the Tartan Pride to victory, exploding in a flawless second half, missing zero shots (11 FGs made, and six foul shots), en route to 32 second-half points. His scoring skills were accompanied by five rebounds, a steal and block in 32 minutes.
