Week 14's OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – A handful of OCCAC hoopers have been recognized for their superb performances on the hardwood last week (Jan. 28-Feb. 3), named the conference’s Players of the Week. Kierre James (Sinclair) and Clair Schmitmeyer (Edison State) split the D-II women’s votes to earn co-accolades while Owens’ Moreina Moore picked up the D-III honors. For the men, Sean McNeil of Sinclair and Lorain County’s Thomas Hronis brought home the D-II and D-III laurels, respectively.   

KIERRE JAMES
Sinclair Community College | D-II Women
James dropped in seven 3-pointers en route to 27 points in an 84-46 win over Bryant & Stratton (OH). She needed just 12 attempts to do so, shooting 58% from beyond the arc. James added a half dozen rebounds, four assists and a steal in 33 minutes played. This marks her second weekly OCCAC award of the season (Jan. 7).

CLAIR SCHMITMEYER
Edison State Community College | D-II Women
Schmitmeyer did a little bit of everything in a busy week for the Chargers, posting per game averages of 12.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 4.3 assists in a total of 98 minutes spanning three contests. Schmitmeyer is now the owner of four OCCAC weekly awards in her career, three coming this season.

MOREINA MOORE
Owens Community College | D-III Women
Moore lifted the Express to a 79-50 road win at Lorain County by registering 18 points, five rebounds and two steals. She was ultra-efficient from the floor, hitting 6-of-8 (75%) field goal attempts.

SEAN MCNEIL
Sinclair Community College | D-II Men
McNeil continued his dominance of this space for 2018-19, corralling his league-leading sixth OCCAC weekly honor. For this latest distinction, McNeil broke a pair of school records with his fifth 40-point game and making his 90th 3-pointer this season. He played 38 minutes in a 77-65 win over Bryant & Stratton (OH), racking up 40 points on 13-of-22 (59%) shooting (7-of-13 from beyond the arc). McNeil added 7-of-8 foul shots, five rebounds, three steals and two assists.

THOMAS HRONIS
Lorain County Community College | D-III Men
Hronis is the OCCAC D-III Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season after accumulating 34 points and six rebounds. He shot 55% (11-20) from the floor, including a 9-of-17 marksman effort from deep. Hronis pushed the Commodores past Owens, 116-82.
