SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – In a week which saw 13 nominations submitted to the conference office, four student-athletes rose above the rest to claim Feb. 18’s OCCAC Basketball Player of the Week awards. Amanda Schroeder (Sinclair) and Taylor Works (Owens) are the women’s recipients while Lacey Watson (Edison State) and Azende Johnson (Hocking College) brought home the men’s accolades.
AMANDA SCHROEDER
Sinclair Community College | D-II Women
Schroeder lifted the 20th-ranked Tartan Pride to a pair of conference wins by dominating with 39.0 points and 14.5 rebounds per game. She added 4.0 assists, 3.5 blocks and 1.5 steals/game to her sensational weekly stat line in the lopsided victories. Schroeder shot 63% (29-46) from the floor and 60% in knocking down a dozen 3-pointers (12-20).
Schroeder now owns three OCCAC weekly honors this season and eight in her career.
TAYLOR WORKS
Owens Community College | D-III Women
Works did it all in a 3-0 week for the Owens Express. She registered 23.3 points, 7.0 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game while converting on 25-of-47 (53%) field goal attempts. This is Works’ second honor, earning the distinction for the season’s opening week back on Nov. 5 as well. It also marks the fourth straight week in which Owens Women’s Basketball has been honored.
LACEY WATSON
Edison State Community College | D-II Men
Watson and the Chargers ripped through three wins, including a pair of OCCAC triumphs to remain in the hunt for a regular season league title. He tallied per-game averages of 28.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.0 steals. Watson buried 11-of-21 (52%) shots from beyond the arc and 49% (29-59) overall. He picks up his fourth OCCAC Player of the Week recognition of 2018-19.
AZENDE JOHNSON
Hocking College | D-III Men
Johnson was an ultra-efficient scorer, shoving 24.0 points/game through the hoop at a 63% (17-of-27) shooting rate which included a 7-of-13 (54%) effort from 3-point range. He added 11 rebounds and a steal to his week’s stat line. Johnson picked up this same laurel on Nov. 12.
