Opening Week Conference Players of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The 2018-19 college basketball season arrived and the OCCAC has selected its first Player of the Week honorees. The D-II winners are Keeara Nared (Sinclair) and James Anderson, Jr. (Cuyahoga) while Taylor Works (Owens) and Justin Newman (Lorain County) earned the D-III laurels.

KEEARA NARED
Sinclair Community College | D-II Women  
Nared converted on 6-of-11 field goal attempts, including a 3-pointer, for 13 points in No. 15 Sinclair’s 60-42 road victory at Anne Arundel Community College. She added 11 rebounds for a double-double and came up just two assists shy of the triple-double by dishing out eight assists. Nared stuffed five steals into her stat sheet as well in 37 minutes played.

TAYLOR WORKS
Owens Community College | D-III Women
Works forced her way to the foul line 11 times, converting on 10 attempts. She also hit a pair of field goals for a total 14 points to go along with her seven rebounds, two steals and an assist in a close contest versus Oakland Community College.  

JAMES ANDERSON, JR.
Cuyahoga Community College | D-II Men   
Anderson averaged 18.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game during two Challenger triumphs. Knocked down seven field goals in both contests and added 11 rebounds against Indiana Elite Prep for the double-double.

JUSTIN NEWMAN
Lorain County Community College | D-III Men
Newman exploded for a school-record 53 points in a 142-103 shootout versus Pitt-Titusville. For the week, he averaged 33.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while playing 75 total minutes in Lorain County’s two wins. Newman added eight rebounds, five steals and two assists to his 53-point outburst.
