SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Sinclair Community College swept the OCCAC D-II Basketball Player of the Week awards for Nov. 12-18 with Amanda Schroeder and Sean McNeil earning the honors. Shyah Wheeler of Owens Community College picked up D-III Player of the Week distinction.
Through three weeks, six different student-athletes have won the women’s D-II/D-III weekly laurels while McNeil grabs his second consecutive D-II men’s recognition.
AMANDA SCHROEDER
Sinclair Community College | D-II Women
Schroeder corrals her first Player of the Week nod this season and the seventh of her career after leading the conference with six honors as a freshman. This week she was responsible for 29.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in a pair of victories for the 15th-ranked Tartan Pride. Schroeder added five steals, four assists and a block to her impressive stat line. She knocked down nearly half of her field goal attempts (21-43) and 14-of-16 foul shots. During a tightly-contested 78-75 triumph over the Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Schroeder provided Sinclair with 38 points and 16 rebounds.
SHYAH WHEELER
Owens Community College | D-III Women
Wheeler had an incredible weekend after joining the basketball squad midweek following her season of competing for the Express volleyball team which claimed the NJCAA D-III National Championship. The two-sport star put up 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a pair of wins over Lorain County and Rock Valley College. Wheeler shot 57% (20-35) over the weekend.
SEAN MCNEIL
Sinclair Community College | D-II Men
McNeil defended his crown at the D-II Men’s Basketball Player of the Week by dropping in 42.5 points per game. He began the week by cramming 30 points into the bucket before exploding for the ‘double nickel’ (55 points) in an overtime thriller versus Bryant & Stratton. McNeil shot 61% (27-44) from the floor and was lethal from beyond the arc, hitting at a 60% clip (15-25). He was excellent at the charity stripe as well, converting on 16-of-19 foul shots.
McNeil did more than score though, adding per-game averages of 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists as well.
