Big Numbers Posted in Week Two  by OCCAC Players of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Week Two of the 2018-19 basketball season saw student-athletes from four different conference institutions earn Player of the Week honors. Lauryn Gray (Edison State) and Whitney Staggs (Columbus State) were selected for the women’s D-II and D-III accolades, respectively, while Sinclair’s San McNeil and Azende Johnson of Hocking College came away as the men’s recipients.

LAURYN GRAY
Edison State Community College | D-II Women      
Gray averaged a double-double (16.0 points, 10.5 rebounds) in two contests for the Chargers. She garnered 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals in a road league win at Columbus State before coming back later in the week with 20 points, 12 boards, three assists and two steals versus the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Gray shot 45% (14-31) from the floor, including 3-for-7 from long range.

WHITNEY STAGGS
Columbus State Community College | D-III Women
Staggs capped off a three-game week by exploding for 35 points and 12 rebounds in a 98-83 neutral-site victory over Frederick Community College. She attempted 24 shots in 29 minutes, converting on 17 (71%). It was her second double-double of the week, posting 11 points and 11 boards earlier vs. Montgomery College. For the week, Staggs posted game averages of 17.3 points, 10.0 boards, 2.3 steals and 1.7 assists while shooting 54% (22-41) for the Cougars.

SEAN MCNEIL
Sinclair Community College | D-II Men       
McNeil was good for 62 points and 19 rebounds in two contests for the Tartan Pride. He knocked down 34 shots in total, hitting 19-of-54 field goals and sinking all 15 free throw attempts. McNeil came up a lone rebound shy of back-to-back double-doubles with 40 points and nine rebounds against MU-Middletown before a 22-point, 10-rebound effort at Henry Ford College.

AZENDE JOHNSON
Hocking College | D-III Men
Johnson cracked the scoring century mark, putting up 106 points (35.3/game) last week. He did so efficiently as well, shooting 64% (38-59) from the floor, 42% (8-19) from 3-point range and 76% (22-29) at the charity stripe. Johnson did more than just score though, averaging 8.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game. He shot 60% or better in all three contests with point totals of 27, 32 and 47.
