2018-19 OCCAC All-Sports Award Goes to the Tartan Pride

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Sinclair Community College has earned the 2018-19 OCCAC All-Sports Award, powered by conference championships for women’s basketball (co), baseball and softball.

“This is a great honor and achievement earned through the tireless efforts of our student-athletes and coaches to excel in the classroom, community service and competition,” Jeff Price, Sinclair Athletics Director, said.

The award is tallied by issuing points to schools based on their place of finish in each OCCAC-sponsored sport and dividing that total by the number of sports at each respective school. Conference champions earn 10 points, second place earns nine and so on. Ties are divided (i.e. - a two-way tie for second place would result in both schools receiving 8.5 points; a three-way tie for second would give each team 8.0 points).

The Tartan Pride posted an 8.70 average across all five OCCAC sports. In addition to the aforementioned titles for women’s basketball, baseball and softball, Sinclair volleyball placed third and the men’s basketball squad came in at No. 5 in the league standings.

Sinclair has continued to climb the ladder since finishing fourth in the 2015-16 All-Sports standings. The Tartan Pride rose to third place in 2016-17, second place in 2017-18 and ascended to the top for ’18-19.

Edison State (7.90 avg.) claimed its highest finish in school history, coming in at No. 2 thanks to a top-4 placement in all five sports. Charger men’s basketball and baseball were conference runner-ups while women’s basketball and softball cracked the top-3.

Owens, winners of the previous four All-Sports Awards, round out this year’s top-3 after rejoining the league for baseball and softball. The Express posted a 7.10 average on the strength of OCCAC crowns in volleyball and women’s basketball (co). Just one-tenth behind was Columbus State at 7.00 in fourth place.
