Five OCCAC Hoopers Earn All-America Honors

 

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Five Ohio Community College Athletics Conference basketball student-athletes received NJCAA All-America recognition for the 2019-20 season, highlighted by Lakeland’s Armani Jackson garnering First Team (D-II) laurels.

Fellow Laker Tyreke  Johnson was a D-II Second Team honoree while Elijah Bishop of Columbus State reeled in D-II Second Team distinction. A pair of D-III women’s players made the list:  Shyah Wheeler (Owens) as a Third Team selection and Mickale Bates (Columbus State) receiving Honorable Mention.

ARMANI JACKSON
Lakeland Community College | NJCAA D-II First Team All-America
The OCCAC Player of the Year averaged 19.1 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.4 assists per game. She also added 22 blocks to her season stat line.

TYREKE JOHNSON
Lakeland Community College | NJCAA D-II Second Team All-America
The OCCAC Player of the Year averaged 18.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He shot 45% from the field and knocked down 3-pointers at a 38% rate.

ELIJAH BISHOP
Columbus State Community College | NJCAA D-III Second Team All-America
Bishop put forth 16.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assist and 1.4 steals per game during his OCCAC Player of the Yea runner-up campaign. He shot 56% from the field and converted on 41% beyond the arc.

SHYAH WHEELER
Owens Community College | NJCAA D-III Third Team All-America
A First Team All-OCCAC chose, Wheeler, leaped into the national spotlight as well. She averaged 19.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 2.0 blocks and 1.8 assists per game.

MICKALE BATES
Columbus Community College | NJCAA D-III Honorable Mention All-America
Bates, also a First Team All-OCCAC performer, posted per game averages of 15.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.8 steals to bring in the national love.
