SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – With the 2018 OCCAC Baseball championship race winding down, representatives from the top-2 conference contenders were selected as the OCCAC Athletes of the Week. Sinclair’s Malave Bettinger is this week’s Position Player of the Week while Max Carevic of Cuyahoga earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

MALAVE BETTINGER
Sinclair Community College
Baseball Position Player of the Week

Bettinger made the most of the Tartan Pride’s lone contest of the week, exploding for two homeruns and six RBI. His 2-for-3 outing also included a pair of walks and three runs scored as Sinclair blew past Eastern Gateway, 21-2, for a road victory.

This marks Bettinger’s first career weekly honor and the fourth different Sinclair baseball student-athlete to nab the honor in ’18.

MAX CAREVIC
Cuyahoga Community College
Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Carevic no-hit the opposition for a total of six innings last week in a pair of appearances. His week started with a perfect inning of relief in the Challengers 15-7 win over Mount Union JV. Carevic then hurled five innings of no-hit baseball as Cuyahoga topped Mercyhurst North East 3-2, earning himself the ‘W.’

Cuyahoga has now won five consecutive OCCAC Pitcher of the Week awards, earned by four different Challenger hurlers.
