Weekly Awards Presented to Superb Student-Athletes

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Sinclair Softball swept the OCCAC Athlete of the Week awards for Apr. 23-29 with ‘Alexis Squared,’ Alexis Gordon and Alexis Strother, earning Position Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. For baseball, Edison State’s Jake Clements (position player) and Brock Begue (pitcher) of Cuyahoga received the weekly recognition.

Baseball Position Player of the Week

Clements tore through last week at a feverish pace, ripping multiple hits in all four games and batting .667 (10-15) overall. He reached base four more times by drawing walks and came around to score a whopping 11 times as the Chargers went 3-1. Clements was also responsible for three doubles and three stolen bases. This marks the second Position Player of the Week recognition for Edison State this season (Cameron Davis, March 12).

Softball Position Player of the Week

Gordon rattled off six consecutive multi-hit contests, hitting .593 (16-27) for the week. She tallied three doubles, seven RBI and scored nine runs during a 4-2 week which included four conference wins. Gordon was huge in the OCCAC triumphs over Edison State, recording all three doubles, all seven RBI and eight of her nine runs during that four-game stretch.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Begue blanked Lakeland for seven innings, earning the win and his second Pitcher of the Week distinction this season. He struck out nine Lakers while offering up just four hits and issuing zero walks. Cuyahoga has now strung together four straight weekly pitcher accolades, a streak started by Begue on April 9.

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Strother is the conference’s pitcher of the week once again, bringing home her fourth honor of the season. Her most recent award-worthy performance included four appearances in the circle, including three starts, for a total of 16.2 innings. Strother gave up only two earned runs (five total) on nine hits and three walks while fanning nearly two dozen batters (23 K’s). She registered a 3-1 record for the week.
